WA SB 5486
SB 5486 passed this year with the help of the Washington chapter of the Hearing loss association of America. This bill supports closed captioning technology for the general public for each screening that is produced and available with closed captioning. This is required by Title III of the federal Americans with disabilities act.
Hearing Loss Community Picnic
The annual hearing loss community potluck picnic hosted by HLAA-WA is on July 12, 2025, from 11 am – 3 pm at Lake Bored Park. Their invitation writes "Special guests from the newly formed Northwest Academy of Audiology, Alexandra Alfieri and Bryan Greenaway will discuss joining forces to help people with hearing loss get the best possible support. Bring your questions and ideas."
Bill passed in 2019 notifying purchasers of hearing instruments about uses and benefits of telecoil and bluetooth technology. Bluetooth connection has many benefits for hearing aid users. Most hearing aids can be controlled through an app to customize volume and sound. Streaming phone calls and media can be convenient and increase hearing aid usage!
Hope meetings are gatherings for people to obtain validation, support, and knowledge - all provided by HLAA-WA. This is a great opportunity to feel understood and seen. HOPE meetings take place on the first Wednesday of every month at 4:00 – 5:15 pm PST. Meetings are on Zoom, always free, captioned, and open to all, including friends and family.
